Super Long Weekend

I just want to know how parents survived in the "old days" when I was a kid. Especially travelling. The portable DVD player didn't work on the way home from Orangeville today....holy hell what a drive. I tried to break it up a bit by going to MacTier overnight before heading home to NB. Seems like a good idea....but when your son doesn't like to be in his car seat for any length of time....then it becomes fun.
Tanner cried from Port Sydney to NB. For those of you who doesn't know where Port Sydney is....that is about an hour and half. Straight. Fun. (I can think of another word to use...but I am polite.) I pulled over on three separate occasions to rock the poor guy to sleep. When he was just asleep I would put him back in, jump in the car and head onto the hwy.....then the screaming would start again. The closer we got to NB, he would calm down or take a breath...which is when Lilly would yell to scare him or laugh loudly....only to result in scaring the bejesus out of him and it all started over again. By South River all three of us were crying. The dog....she was shaking....like I said...good times.

I can't remember way back when...but I do remember playing games in the back seat with my brother to pass the time. Battleship, Eyespy, euchure......mind you every game we played resulted in us fighting.....but I don't remember how my parents kept it together when we were babies.....With a nice glass of wine when they got home I am sure....hey...did I mention I am having a Vex while we speak???????? My name is Lian and I am a Vexaholic.

On the other side of the coin, it was a great weekend. Cold and rainy...but great. We got to see my Grandma (GG) and Aunt Marilyn. We also got to see Deej, Cyn and Patricia. (And my soon to be niece or nephew.....:o)) Won't see them again til Christmas in K/W in December. Too long.
I also got some Christmas shopping done in Barrie on Monday. So overall it was a great weekend. Poppa was glad to have Sophie for the weekend....and MaMa was just happy to see the kiddies.

Time for bed.
Cheers
Lian

  • It was a great weekend! Lilly used the new booster seat, pottie and 'big girl Tinkerbell bed'. MaMa laid down with her 3 times.I got to hold Tanner alot this weekend. Maybe he wanted someone to hold him all the way home!
    love,

  • Games were fun. I certainly remember 'red punch buggy' and saying "Furry trees, furry trees", between Port Severn and Barrie (or was it Picky trees?).
How about putting Muffy between the front seats so she could go see Mom (sounds cruel, but it was not).
There was the Humming Game! and i remember the car breaking down every Boxing Day too!

  • My dad used to crank the radio and drown me out. I'd be sitting between my two older brothers driving everyone nuts. Other times I got left at my grandparent's house.
